Independent project: portraits
The theme I chose for my project is people. I wanted to show my improvement of my portraits through this project. I wanted to photograph people because I think that they are the most interesting thing to photograph. I love the emotion shown in these photos and I am super glad I got to follow through on this theme. Some of the rules of composition I used were rule of thirds, focal point, and blurred background. My focal point is in the eyes of my subjects and I tried to angle them so they were on the intersections of the grid.
Photo transfer
A photo transfer is a type of art where the ink from a photograph is transferred onto another material like wood or cardstock. The photos I picked for this project were two pictures of mountains, and one of my brother in the mountains, I chose these photographs to transfer because spending time in the mountains is a very large part of my family life. I wanted to make photo transfers of things that were important to me and my family. My parents will receive my photo transfers because their anniversary was recently and I wanted to do something special. They will love it. Some successes in this project were affecting the images to make them high contrast and black and white, and rubbing off the paper. I think I did a good job making the photos show up and not rubbing too hard to rub away the ink. Some challenges were putting the mod podge on. This was difficult and precise process. Also waiting for it to dry was difficult because I was so excited! Next time, I would use different photos. I think portraits look interesting as photo transfers so I would probably use portraits instead.
Installation art is a type of 4 dimensional artwork that transforms a space. The purpose of installation art is to transform a space and create an interactive and interesting art space. This project was to create an installation art project to hang in the school based around an important issue to you. I chose to do my project on how much paper is thrown away a year. I demonstrated this by making 85 paper airplanes, each one represents one million tons of paper thrown away in the US. I went to a sustainability based school last year. This helped inspire me to come up with this theme. I believe that people throwing away paper is a very important issue. We are wasting resources. The process of creating my piece started with a sketch. I then made paper airplanes to put on the wall, made of recycled paper. One success I had doing this project was making the paper airplanes out of recycled paper was not very difficult. I think I overall did a good job installing it in a way that looks interesting and shows my message. One challenge I had was taking pictures of enough recycling bins to show how much paper is thrown away. When a viewer looks at my piece, I want them to recognise how much paper is thrown away so that they can be more aware of how much paper they throw away by themselves. I hope my project brings awareness to this important issue.
Macro photography is when a small item is presented as life sized. The purpose of this is to make small minor things look larger than they are. To magnify them. Outside of the photography art world, macro photography can be used in science to make smaller microscopic things appear large, and in other professions when things need to be magnified. My theme was simply things all around us such as clothing, blankets, and other items that we see everyday. Something that was successful was focusing the camera to make my photos very close and clear. A challenge was finding a dark photo because it was difficult to demonstrate night through a photo.
memes.
A meme is a picture with a joke or caption written on it. The purpose of a meme is to make people laugh, and entertain people by creating a relatable situation. I made memes that I thought were funny and that I know I relate to and others my age group would relate to and laugh at as well. One success I had was finding pictures that I took to put a funny caption on. They ended up very funny. Something challenging about memes are that I had trouble actually finding pictures to use immediately. Next time, I would take better pictures.
Magazine cover
The tone of my magazine was overall kind of a serious and simple tone. I chose this photograph because in it, the model looks serious and fashionable and simple in the photo. There were many things that were successful with my magazine cover, some being that I think I did a good job making it look like the magazine and I wrote some headers etc. Something challenging was that I had issues trying to put my model in front of the title/logo which is something I would want to do next time. Next time, I would like to add more banners and more words on my magazine. Additionally, I would want to put the model in front of the Logo.
For this project, we had to do a photo documentary of a social issue in our lives. something that I thought would be a good thing to do my project on is the affects of social media on self image. I wanted to do this because self-image is something that I know that I, and many others my age group struggle with. When evaluating the problem, the first thing that came to mind was social media. Some successes in this piece are that I think I did a good job creating a cohesive body of work that demonstrates my theme. Also I think overall most of my photos are new and interesting and I am proud. Some things I struggled with is the lighting, and the clarity of the photos. I am working on aperture, ISO, and depth of field and that is something I need to continue to work on. Overall, by looking at my work, I would like people to recognize the dangers and consequences of social media when it comes to self image and being worried about how others view you.
For this project, we had to create a story 10 photographs by using light painting photography. We used ISO, aperture, and shutter speed to create these images. My story is in collaboration with Lucky schooner who did the second half of our story of cinderella.
Faux street photography
Street photography is a photographer's way to capture candid photographs of people's everyday lives. In this faux street art project, we were supposed to find pictures we have taken in the past and turn them to black and white. The photos we were supposed to have found are meant to represent street photography. The reasoning behind this project is so that when we take actual street photography in the future, we have some ideas on what they should look like. Overall, I think I was pretty successful. Most of my pictures mimic street art photography and are candid and represent daily life. I think I did a good job.
We are south- portrait project
This project was to take dignified portraits of people at south, to demonstrate the diversity. One success I had was finding people to talk to and take pictures of. One challenge I had was going and talking to new people who I don't normally talk to, along with technical issues with captions. Something I would like to improve on is making my watermark more visible, and getting more light in the eyes of some of my subjects.

Toys come to life
This project was to take several pictures to make a toy seem alive. An artist I was inspired by were hot kenobi. This is because he uses toys and action figures and makes them look alive and playful. This is such an interesting concept to me. Some successes were that i was able to manipulate my camera through angles and aperture etc. to get a good lighting for my final photos. Overall, some challenges were being creative and making my toys do/experience things that would make them alive. If the public were to see my images, I would want them to see the playfulness of the toys. I would want them to see beyond the childrens aspects of toys and realize that they can be portrayed to have lives too.

Egg project
This project was to photograph both sexy and creative eggs in order to depict the rules of composition. Some challenges for me, were finding the right angle and lighting to portray what is intended. I wanted to find backgrounds that were simple, but also would contribute to the egg's sublime image, which was difficult, but in the end I found. Some successes for me were focusing on the subject in my photos and showing contrast through value and black and white color scheme. This was a success for me because the black and white colors seemed to amplify the contrast and sophistication of the egg images. Additionally, by focusing on the subject and angle of my image, I was able to practice the use of depth of field. In the end some things I could improve on are being creative with my use of colors and experimenting with more rules of composition other than contrast, value, background etc. Finally, by doing this project, I was able to practice using the rules of composition and incorporating them into still life images to make a seemingly boring object more interesting.
composition project
This week we had a mission which was to take 8-10 photos that follow the rules of composition. We got to choose our themes which was extremely exciting. I decided to choose the theme based off of the album, "Flower Boy" by Tyler the Creator. I chose this theme because many of the songs on the album speak to me in a positive way. Overall Tyler's album seems to communicate a positive message unlike many other rap albums today. Additionally, I love the graphics of the album cover. The photographs I chose to use, many of them are inspired by the song, "See you again". One of them is inspired by the song "Boredom" and the rest are inspired by the album cover's graphics. Overall, some successes were that I was able to find things to picture to accurately portray this album. Some challenges were that I knew that if you didn't know the songs, the images would be hard to understand. When looking at my photographs, I want people to experience the love that Tyler sings about in his album even if they have never lived it.
scavenger hunt
The project we were given was, look at the scavenger hunt sheet and photograph things that applied to those terms. Some of the things to photograph for example were, something red or soft. The purpose of this assignment was to find things that you might be required to photograph in the real world and be able to practice. Additionally, we practiced our photo skills and followed the rules of composition. Some successes in this project was that I feel that improved on following the rules of composition and my photo skills in general. Some challenges were that some things were difficult to find and I was having technical difficulties. Overall, I learned more about the rules of photography and taking pictures. I got to practice and work of my photo skills for the future. This had been a very helpful assignment overall.
